What types of problems and issues might I see a counsellor about?

Your reasons for coming to counselling can vary enormously but can include:

  • Relationship problems including feelings of insecurity, jealousy, abuse, lack of intimacy, communication issues.
  • Feelings of isolation and loneliness, despair, emptiness, suffering.
  • Stress at work and home
  • Transition, loss and bereavement
  • Feelings of low self esteem
  • Feelings related to lack of control and power
  • Childhood experiences including abuse and trauma
  • Feelings of dissatisfaction and lack of meaning
  • Feelings of guilt, shame.
  • Fear Anxiety, Depression
  • Anger and resentment.
  • Health worries
  • Troubling thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

Longer term counselling

Counselling is based on a developing relationship between the counsellor and client, a supportive and confidential relationship, a partnership where both the client and counsellor bring their internal resources together, to enable the client to become more aware of and think about themselves, and their life.

Longer term Counselling enables a client to work with reoccurring problems,  to understand how past experiences , patterns of thought, emotion and behavior impact on difficulties in their life and to consciously engage with these aspects of themselves.

Shorter Term Counselling

Shorter term counselling enables a client to work with a more focused problem in the present, a particular period of stress or transition and or enables us to assess a need for more in-depth counselling.
